PM: Water situation in Bangkok remains under control

BANGKOK, October 14 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Friday that the water situation in Bangkok has remained under control, urging the public not to panic.

In a move to calm down some 12 million people in Bangkok from concerns and anxiety over Thailand's ongoing flooding crisis, which has affected millions of people in about three thirds of the country's 77 provinces, killing at least 289 victims and causing a huge damage to the local farm and industrial sectors, especially those in the lower northern Nakhon Sawan and the central Ayutthaya Provinces, Yingluck insisted that the overall water situation now appears to be stable, not increasing, and conditions in inner Bangkok and at most of Thailand's top tourist destinations have remained normal.

Meanwhile, most areas in the Thai capital have been well-protected by floodwalls and agencies concerned have erected sandbag dikes along the Chao Phraya River to prevent the city from possible floods from upstream areas. (TNA)
