INDONESIAN AIRLINES REDUCE FUEL SURCHARGE

Jakarta, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - The transportation ministry assured here on Thursday that the airlines that will serve Islamic post-fasting holiday makers had already cut their fuel surcharge.
"They have already reduced it. All 14 scheduled airlines have," the director general of air transportation, Budhi Muliawan Suyitno, said to newsmen on the sidelines of the installation of echelon two and three officials of the ministry.
He said he received confirmation about the reduction of the fuel surcharge during a fast-breaking gathering with the airlines' officials on Wednesday evening.
"Indeed, the reduction ranges from Rp40 to Rp50 per passenger," he said.
He however hoped this would give an opportunity to passengers who wish to celebrate the holidays in their hometowns to get a cheaper fare especially for those who bought tickets go-show.
Budhi assured the seat capacity this year would reach more than two million while demand was predicted at only 1.8 million.
He called on all passengers to monitor the performance of the airlines they chose to fly with regard to their ticket price and services.
"We have called on airlines to put up a notice about the ceiling price of their economy class tickets and passengers' rights in case they get a bad service such as flight departure delay," he said.
A ministerial decree Number 25 of 2008 states a passenger is entitled to hotel accommodation and others in case his/her flight is delayed for more than two hours.
He said the government has also changed the regulation on pilot's age limit in anticipation of a pilot shortage in the country and in the world.
"A ministerial decree to that effect has been signed stating that the maximum age of a captain pilot remains 60 while a co-pilot 65 from the previous 63 years old," he said.
