Thai governor visits traditional boat race in Laos
BANGKOK, October 13 (TNA) - The governor of Thailand’s Mukdahan province led his delegation to a traditional boat race on the occasion of the Buddhist Lent end in Kaysone Phomvihane town in Laos. The visit is aimed at boosting bilateral relations and promoting cultural exchange.
Mukdahan governor Charnwit Wasayangkun led heads of local government offices as well as Mukdahan people to the annual boat race in Kaysone Phomvihane town in Savannakhet province.
Khampoei Pantajon, deputy governor of Savannakhet province, Mrs Wilawan Liapwichainawang, head of Kaysone Phomvihane town, the consul-general in Savannakhet, representatives of Vietnam and Lao people welcomed the Thai delegation to the friendly event.
It was an exchange visit as the deputy governor of Savannakhet and Lao people had attended a traditional boat race on the occasion of the Buddhist Lent end in Mukdahan province from October 10 to 12.
Mukdahan governor Charnwit said the visit boosted good relations between Mukdahan and Savannakhet that were twin provinces. He also said he hopes the activity will promote economic, trade, investment, tourism and cultural cooperation across both sides of the Mekong river.
The traditional boat race in Savannakhet will end on Thursday. Forty boats joined the race including those from Mukdahan province of Thailand. (TNA)
