Floods cause 26 billion baht of damage to Thai industries

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) - Initial losses estimated for Thai industries nationwide from the ongoing floods have reached 26 billion baht, says the Industry Ministry.

Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said on Wednesday both direct and indirect damages to factories are estimated to be at least 1 billion baht while the loss of business opportunities are estimated at 25 billion baht. He noted that the figures exclude damages to the Rojana Industrial Park, which is still being assessed.

According to the minister, floods have inundated 59 provinces altogether and affected 930 factories in 28 provinces. Biggest impacts have been reported by factories in Ayutthaya, Lop Buri and Nakhon Sawan Provinces.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said the flooding has led to the closure of 72 petrol stations, seven gas cylinder filling plants, 18 LPG stations, and five natural gas stations in 14 provinces.

Pichai said his ministry is working to ensure there are sufficient energy supplies in flooded areas. So far, his ministry’s agencies have coordinated with PTT Public Company Limited in sending some 30,000 15-liter containers of oil to flood victims. (TNA)
