Police ordered to take care of flood victims

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung said on Wednesday he believes that government authorities can ensure safety of people in flood-hit areas, as relevant measures have been in good place.

According to the deputy premier, who oversees the Royal Thai Police under the Thai Ministry of Interior, senior police officers have been tasked to support governors and other authorities concerned in flood-hit provinces to assist affected people and to maintain social order with public safety in their respective areas during Thailand's ongoing flooding crisis.

Police Captain Chalerm revealed that the police, including those in non-flood-stricken areas, marine police and border patrol police forces, have also been instructed to facilitate the evacuation of patients in inundation-battered areas, by either boats or helicopters, insisting that flood relief mission is a main duty of the Thai Ministry of Interior.

The deputy premier acknowledged as well that he has ordered police to crack down thefts during the country's ongoing flooding crisis and after an upcoming flood recession, when increased crime rates are foreseen. (TNA)
