Thai PM warns people in Bangkok’s outskirts to prepare for flooding

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has waned residents in Bangkok’s outskirts to prepare themselves for possible low-level flooding that could be caused by a combination of rainfall and northern runoffs.

Yingluck told reporters that as Bangkok is situated in a flat and low-lying area, people who live by canals or in the capital city’s outskirts should, therefore, brace themselves for a potential low-level flooding as rainfall and runoffs could possibly raise flood levels in the capital’s neighbouring provinces. She noted however that the impact should not be felt by those living in the inner Bangkok areas.

Yingluck also inspected preparation and gave moral support to officials of the Emergency Medical Institute of Thailand at Don Mueang Airport which is currently functioning as a centre for the airborne referral of patients.

The Pheu Thai prime minister also accepted donated cash and items from various organizations which include 50,000 bags of necessities from the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, three motor boats and 6.2 million baht cash. All the cash and items will be distributed to flood victims. (TNA)
