Thai PM uncertain over Bangkok’s fate

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has admitted that her government cannot guarantee if the capital city will be safe from flooding but promised it will do its best to battle the disaster.

Yingluck said before chairing a meeting on flood situations at Don Mueang Airport that her government is deeply concerned about the floods in the central plains as northern runoffs are approaching.

The prime minister said she has ordered officials concerned to complete the construction of floodwalls in three Bangkok locations within two days to help safeguard the capital city.

Yingluck, nevertheless, said she cannot guarantee that the attempts will be successful in preventing floods as there are still several uncontrollable factors including the theft of sandbags from the town levee and potential storms. (TNA)
