Thai FM to inform world community of flood situation
BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said on Tuesday his ministry will provide updated information about Thailand’s flood crisis to the world community to avoid setbacks on the tourism industry.
Surapong said despite the fact that some tourist destinations in Ayutthaya Province have been flooded, other popular tourist destinations in Phuket and Samui islands have not affected and tourists can still visit them as usual.
“We will also tell Thai people living abroad that they need not be worried about the safety of their relatives here. I confirm that the government has preventive measures in place and will do it best to take good care of its people.” Surapong said.
As Thailand remained a member of the World Heritage Committee, the Foreign Ministry and the Culture Ministry will seek aid from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that usually grants 30,000 US dollars to each damaged world heritage site, he added.
