Media urged to rely on government sources
BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has sought cooperation from all media and telecommunication operators, including TV and radio stations, as well as mobile phone service providers, to base their reports on government sources to ensure their reliability and accuracy.
NBTC Deputy Chairman Colonel Natee Sukonrat said that the cooperation was sought at a two-hour meeting of the parties concerned, including the Thai Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), called by the 11-member NBTC on Tuesday.
Colonel Natee acknowledged that information services provided by government sources, including the National Broadcasting Television (NBT) or TV Channel 11 and the Radio of Thailand's nationwide network, is officially linked with the Bangkok-based National Disaster Warning Centre and other reliable sources.
The NBTC deputy chief, however, asked community-based broadcasters to report incidents and subsequent updates taking place in their respective areas, namely floods and other emergency, to the government-run media agencies for further consideration and nationwide broadcasts. (TNA)
