Ex-police officer arrested for attempting to smuggle supernotes

BUSAN, Oct. 11 (Yonhap) -- A former police officer was arrested on suspicion of attempting to buy counterfeit 100-dollar U.S. bills believed to have been made in North Korea, Busan prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The 59-year-old man identified only with his surname Kim was indicted and detained on charges of trying to smuggle fake bills, known as supernotes, with a total face value of US$500,000 from China to South Korea, the prosecutors said.
Two others involved in the case were prosecuted without physical detention, they added.
Kim attempted to buy the supernotes at half price from a Korean-Chinese broker in Harbin, China, around Dec. 8, last year but the broker failed to deliver them citing "problems that occurred in the delivery process," prosecutors said.
