Authority: Thailand's floods are unlikely to affect domestic tourism

BANGKOK, October 11 (TNA) - Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chumpol Silapa-archa, who is also Tourism and Sports Minister, said on Tuesday that the country's ongoing flooding crisis is unlikely to seriously affect domestic tourism, as international tourist arrivals in the Kingdom have been over 40,000 a day on average.
Chumpol revealed that he has discussed the country's widespread floods with local tourism-related businesses and believes that the now over two-month inundations should not affect domestic tourism in all areas, but only some severely-flood-hit provinces, namely the central Ayutthaya Province.
The Thai deputy premier affirmed that the International Horticultural Exposition 2011, or the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, set to be held in the country's northern resort Chiang Mai Province next month will be organised as scheduled.
In response to some countries' issuances of warning for their nationals not to visit flood-stricken Thailand at the moment, the minister said that the warning should be a low-level alert and he has instructed the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to explain to international travellers, through TAT overseas offices, that the country's flooding crisis has not affected domestic tourism.
