Thailand’s telecommunications commission officially begins work

BANGKOK, October 10 (TNA) - The Office of Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is expanding coverage of community radio stations and handheld transceivers to all flooded areas.

Eleven members of the NBTC on Monday stepped into office for the first day, and paid respect to the portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol and to the statue of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn.

Chairman of the NBTC, Air Chief Marshal Thares Punsri said the NBTC would assist flood victims by expanding coverage of community radio stations and handheld transceivers to all flooded areas.

Expanding coverage to flooded areas would ensure that government officials there are able to communicate with the outside world.

NBTC Chairman said the NBTC was working closely with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve preparedness for floods. He added that NBTC was part of the government’s flood relief program, and was coordinating with television and radio stations as well as mobile network service providers in order to disseminate flood-related information to the public.
