Thais, Cambodians offer alms to monks

BANGKOK, October 9 (TNA) - More than 10,000 Thais and Cambodians on Sunday braved a heavy rain and offered alms to Buddhist monks from the two neighbouring countries near a Thai-Cambodian border village in the Thai northeastern province of Si Sa Ket, aimed at strengthening relations between the two nations.

They offered alms to over 1,000 Thai and Cambodian monks. Part of the alms will be given to poor villagers who are now suffering from severe flood in the area.

Alms, including dried food, were offered to monks near a permanent Thai-Cambodian border pass in the Thai border district of Phu Sing.

Thailand’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Pornsak Jarernprasert along with Suranaree Task Force commander and Si Sa Ket governor acted as chief representatives of the activity for the Thai side while Cambodia’s Anlong Veng District chief Yim Phana represented his country. (TNA)
