Goethe-Institut seeks more involvement in Yemen

SANA'A, Sep 24 (Saba) - Deputy Education minister Abdullah al-Hamedi
met on Wednesday with a delegation from the German Cultural
Institute (Goethe-Institut) led by director general Hans Knob.

The meeting discussed support the institute provides for teaching
the German language in the country within the project of Schools:
Partners for the Future.

The meeting stressed the importance of holding training courses for
teachers during which they will learn about new methods of teaching
the language as well as granting scholarships for superior students
in acquiring the language.

The two sides brought up the issue of how Yemeni teachers can learn
from the institute experiences in training in various fields and
discussed the possibility of opening a branch of the institute in
Yemen. The delegation is expected to pay visits to the Schools:
Partners for the Future in the capital and target provinces to be
acquainted with equipment at these schools.

The Goethe-Institut, affiliated with Germany's Foreign ministry,
observes almost 500 Schools: Partners for the Future in more than 90
countries. The aim of establishing these schools is to attract more
youths to learn the German language and achieve mutual cultural
understanding.

Earlier this year, the Education ministry signed an agreement with
the institute to expand teaching the language in the country in 25
schools instead of 7.
