Thailand to introduce B5 diesel on Oct 21

BANGKOK, October 8 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Energy will introduce B5 diesel nationwide on October 21 and will then actively promote biodiesel production and consumption.

Energy Minister Pichai Naripthaphan said that Thailand's fresh bunches of oil palm yields will be some 750,000 tons monthly from October-December 2011, equivalent to some 128,000 tons of crude palm oil monthly, with some 75,000 tons of the crude palm oil to go to local consumers and about 43,000 tons to feed the production of B4 biodiesel monthly, meaning that some 10,000 tons will remain monthly during the period.

To absorb the excessive crude palm oil and to boost its prices for local oil palm growers, Pichai revealed that he has ordered his ministry's Department of Energy Business to compulsorily introduce B5 diesel in place of B4 diesel from October 21 to December 31 this year; so, Thailand's palm oil stock should drop to about 200,000 tons at the end of this year, which will be sufficient for domestic consumption.

According to the new Thai energy minister, the biodiesel policy will not only immediately assist local oil palm farmers who have now suffered from a drop of their prices of fresh bunches of oil palms by one baht per kilogram, from 4.50 baht per kilogram earlier, but also promote more use of clean and locally-produce fuel in the country.
