Thailand joins regional efforts toward "green economy"

BANGKOK, October 8 (TNA) - Business leaders from the ASEAN+3 group, comprising member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), including Thailand, and the 10-nation bloc's three key dialogue partners, including China, Japan and South Korea, are considered an important group of stakeholders to promote a transition to a regional "green economy".
The business leaders from the ASEAN+3 countries appear to learn with experts at their meeting in Bangkok this week that the new economic model, called the "green economy", is not only all about pollution prevention, but also corporate social responsibility (CSR), considered equally important to meet the "green economy” goal in the region, which is believed to help improve human well-being and social equity; while also significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities.
Organized by the Jakarta-based ASEAN Secretariat, Bangkok-based Chulalongkorn University and the United Nations University-Institute of Advance Studies (UNU-IAS), the two-day meeting is aimed at equipping regional business leaders of the ASEAN+3 countries with necessary knowledge to develop their strategies for sustainable development and corporate social responsibility in their own organizations.
