Thai King endorses NBTC

BANGKOK, October 7 (TNA) - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has approved, in a royal command publicly announced Friday, the appointment of all 11 members of Thailand's new National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) who will each serve a six-year term.
The appointment of the NBTC's 11 members will take effect after it is published in the Royal Gazette, expected within a few days.
The NBTC is Thailand's first telecommunication and broadcasting regulatory body with its members having been elected by Thai senators in a secret ballot on September 5, 2011, ending its process which has been delayed for 14 years. The NBTC is tasked with regulating the country's broadcasting and telecommunication businesses, aimed at turning frequencies into national assets to be then partly allocated for public interest.
