Workers demand Bt300 daily minimum wage

BANGKOK, October 7 (TNA) - Workers rallied at Bangkok's Government House on Friday, demanding that the Thai government keep its promise during its electoral campaigns to raise the country's daily minimum wages to 300 baht and minimum salaries of new bachelor’s degree graduates to 15,000 baht.
Manas Kosol, Chair of the Confederation of Thai Labour, led hundreds of local workers to the Government House and submitted the written demand to the government. The demonstrators also blamed the Thai government for bowing to pressure from local employers and planning to first raise the daily minimum wages only in seven provinces, including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, as well as the southern resort Phuket Province.
The Confederation of Thai Labour, comprising six labour congresses and a confederation of state enterprise labour unions, insisted that the government keep its wage and salary hike promise to reduce income disparity in the Thai society. (TNA)
