Thai government develops web portal for underprivileged

BANGKOK, October 6 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), has developed a web portal as a central on-line one stop service platform to which all the underprivileged can access for information in all areas useful and necessary for their living, based on a UN universal concept of equal opportunities with human dignity for all.
Thai ICT Minister Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap told reporters after opening a seminar in Bangkok on Thursday to publicize the newly-developed web portal, the first of its kind in the country, www.pwdsthai.com, that his Pheu Thai Party-led government has launched the new website since August 2011 and has received a warm welcome from the underprivileged, including persons with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly and other underprivileged groups, with more than 150,000 accessible hits to the web portal so far, aimed at utilizing the world advance ICT to support and promote their opportunities.
Group Captain Anudith acknowledged that information provided on the special website includes that on education, vocations, welfare, as well as relevant laws, technologies, facilities and research and development (R&D) projects, and that the web portal was developed based on international standards with access to all, although it specifically serves the underprivileged, some 1.1 million of whom are Thai PWDs.
According to the ICT minister, his ministry will keep on organizing seminars in all regions of the country to introduce the special web portal for the underprivileged. (TNA)
