Thai Army Chief to close-ranks with Asean defense forces

BANGKOK, October 5 (TNA) - Thai Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha will pay an official visit to Malaysia on Thursday to enhance strategic relations and defense cooperation with neighbouring defense forces.

General Prayuth told reporters of the planned visit on Wednesday, saying that he and defense leaders from Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia will be holding a meeting to promote multilateral defense cooperation between the four countries.

Prayuth acknowledged that the issue of Thailand’s southern unrest will be one topic of discussion despite the fact that Thailand and Malaysia have been working closely on the issue by improving their intelligence-sharing.

He said the issue should be considered collectively because if a problem flared up in one country, it could have spill-over effects onto those nearby.

During his trip, General Prayuth will also be granted an audience with the Malaysian king, where he will be conferred with royal decorations. (TNA)
