Floods torment three regions in Thailand
BANGKOK, October 5 (TNA) - An enormous flood crisis is still unfolding across many Thai provinces in the north, northeast and central plains, as thousands more people plunge into misery and rescue work ruptured by difficulties.
In the northern province of Chiang Mai, the amount of water in rain-fed tributaries in Doi Lor District has begun to recede but remained above the flood stage. Local houses have been hammered by strong currents, particularly in Ban Sop Ao village in Santisuk Sub-district, forcing people to reside in hardships.
In Sukhothai Province, flood warnings have been issued for three districts of Muang, Sri Samrong and Kongkrailart, after heavy rains pounded the Yom River, causing it to overflow.
In the northeast, water has overwhelmed the capacity of the Lam Pao Dam of Kalasin Province. At least 30 million cubic meters of water have been discharged on a daily basis; while rubble-strewn waters have brought about an unpleasant stench to nearby areas.
In Ubon Ratchathani Province, the Moon River has overflowed its banks by nearly two metres, affecting over 2,000 houses in Ubon Ratchathani Municipality and Warin Chamrap District.
In the central plains, over two-metres deep floods remained in Ang Thong Province, especially in Chai-yo District, due to runoffs from Tha Wung District of Lop Buri Province and Ban Phraek District of Ayutthaya Province. (TNA)
