Doha, October 04 (QNA) - HE Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani launched on Tuesday the Arab Games Exhibition on Arab Games Doha 2011 which will run from December 9 to 23 .
The opening ceremony was attended by HE the Minsiter of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz Al Kuwari, HE the Secretary General of Qatar Olymmpic Committee Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and a number heads of Qatari sports associations as well as heads of committees of Arab Gamas Doha 2011.
The Arab Games Exhibition is organised at the QMA Gallery in Katara. It is an effort of the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum (QOSM) at QMA, supported by its partners Qatar Olympic Committee and Egyptian Olympic Committee.
It will feature items including medals, posters, films and interviews of athletes, photographs and educational activities that inform visitors about the history of the Arab Games, which first took place in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1953.
The exhibition is divided into five sections, with the first depicting the political agenda behind the concept of the Arab Games.
This was followed by an era of Egyptian regional leadership. Subsequently, a period of decline affected the consistency of the Games from 1965 to 1985 because of political turmoil in several Arab countries.
A re-organisation of the Arab Games with a new vision later started to emerge, eventually leading to the transformation of the Arab Games into a world-class stage for Arab athletes to perform.
HE Al-Kuwari said the Ministry of Culture and Heritage will be a key partner in the Arab Games Doha 2011 event by organizing activities. The book fair, which will coincide with the event, will serve as an entertainment window for delegates and an opportunity for them to visit and learn about the significance the State of Qatar attaches to the book and culture, he said.
He added that the upcoming Arab Games will also be an opportunity for the participants to see the extent of great evolution witnessed by the country in terms of organizing exhibitions and in making all events including sports and cultural ones a success.
HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage also extended his thanks and appreciation to HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani for the great effort that has been spared to organize this exhibition, pointing out that Qatar has become a venue for successful events, exhibitions and tournaments.
He also wished every success to the organizing committee for this Arab Games edition under the chairmanship of HE Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
The Arab Games Exhibition, which was opened today, marks the beginning of the promotional campaign for the Arab Games in Doha and is a huge step to ensure a successful campaign. The expo is featuring rare items including medals, posters, films and interviews of athletes, photographs and educational activities, and is an opportunity for all sports lovers in the Arab world, HE the QOC Secretary General said.
He added that the Qatari Olympic Committee and the Organizing Committee for this edition have provided all requirements, saying that this exhibition will also a great opportunity for children to learn about the history of former champions, and that there will be weekly regular visits for school students to the expo as part of the school Olympic program as well as for the Arab delegations participating in the Arab Games Doha 2011, especially as the exhibition will run until 23 December.
