17 crewmen missing after S. Korean freighter capsizes off Macao

INCHEON, Sept. 24 (Yonhap) -- All 17 crewmen of a South Korean freighter are missing after their ship capsized off the coast of Macao on Wednesday, the South Korean Coast Guard said.

A Chinese rescue ship found the 4,000-ton Zeus-ho capsized in waters around 57
kilometers southwest of Macao at 4:10 p.m., the coast guard said. Earlier in the
day, the South Korean ship lost radio contact after sending a distress call to
Singaporean maritime authorities.
The 17 crewmen comprise eight South Koreans, eight Myanmarians and one Indonesian.
The Chinese authorities deployed a 3,500-ton rescue ship and an airplane to the
scene to find the missing, but Typhoon Hagupit hampered the Chinese ship from
conducting the rescue operations, the coast guard said.
The South Korean-registered ship, which carried 6,200 tons of glass materials,
left Vietnam on Sunday and was scheduled to arrive at the South Korean port of
Masan on next Sunday.
