Seven killed in clashes in north west Pak
Islamabad, Sept 24 (PTI) Seven persons, including two militants and as many security personnel, were killed in incidents of violence in Pakistan's restive North West Frontier Province and adjoining tribal belt Wednesday.
Two militants and a security personnel were killed in
clashes in the Mohmand tribal region, TV channels reported.
The militants blew up a school in Yakagund area of the
Mohmand Agency while security forces took over a rebel base in
Michni near Peshawar city, a region adjoining the tribal area.
The militants and the security personnel were killed in
subsequent clashes. Three truck drivers who were caught in the
crossfire were also killed.
In the troubled Swat valley in the North West Frontier
Province (N.W.F.P.), a security personnel was killed and two
others injured in an explosion in Charbagh sub-district.
The security personnel were targeted with a
remote-controlled explosive device.
Taliban militants also fired at a check post in Mingora,
the main city in Swat district, injuring four personnel. The
rebels also set ablaze a bank and a school in the valley.
The Angoor Adda region has witnessed missile strikes and
an incursion by US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Interior ministry chief Rehman Malik told reporters in
Peshawar that the anti-militancy operations in tribal areas
would continue until the complete elimination of terrorism.
"I assure you that this operation will continue till the
clearance of terrorists from the area," he said.
Pakistan is itself facing threats of terrorism and
extremism and the war on terror is now the country's own war,
Malik said. PTI RHL
