Thai army promises to give full support to all flood victims

BANGKOK, October 4 (TNA) - Lieutenant General Udomdet Seetabutr, the First Army Region commander, has pledged to give full support to flood victims in 13 provinces under his jurisdiction.
Lieutenant General Udomdet, senior military officers and Suwaporn Jermrangsri, the chief of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, jointly delivered bags of necessities to flood victims in Tha Wang community in Ayutthaya province on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters afterward, the commander expressed concerns about flood situations in the 13 provinces, particularly in Ayutthaya where Wat Chai Wattanaram, a World Heritage site and a historical Buddhist temple is now inundated after waters of Chao Phraya River overflowed its banks early Tuesday.
He said the first army area has deployed additional 100 soldiers to help flood victims in the province and at present, some 200 soldiers are working to contain the impact of the flooding.
On the flood situation in Bangkok, the regional army chief said he has deployed soldiers of an artillery regiment to build elevated walkways for dwellers of 27 communities along the Chao Phraya River, adding that he has also sent an army battalion to position in every Bangkok district to provide relief aid.
