Flooding continues to wreak havoc in several Thai provinces

BANGKOK, October 4 (TNA) - The flood situation on Tuesday continued to remain grim in several Thai provinces in the northern, northeastern, and central regions.

In Hod District of Chiang Mai Province, the Mae Jaem River remained above the flood stage and overflows have spread to hundreds of houses. People have run out of food and drinking water while local roads remained unusable.

An aerial survey by the Provincial Police Region 6 found all areas of Phitsanulok, Sukhothai and Tak Provinces in the lower North completely inundated. Meanwhile, the water level at Bhumibol Dam sat at 94% from its full capacity.

Over in Kalasin Province, the Pao River overflowed its banks to flood hundreds of houses in Lamphan Subdistrict. Roads have become new shelter for some local people as they had to evacuate from home which were damaged by a half-meter deep floodwater.

Severe floods remained in Ang Thong Province. People living in Chaiyo District’s Trinarong Subdistrict have been isolated due to the inundation. The flood turned the subdistrict into a temporary island while getting aid to flood victims there remain a challenge of local authorities.

Overnight persistent rains worsened flood situation in Uthai Thani Province. Local people experienced the hardest time of their life as water levels sat between 2 to 4 meters deep across the city. (TNA)
