PRESIDENT, MINISTERS PAY TITHES THROUGH BAZNAS
Jakarta, Sept 24 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono along with several members of the United Indonesia Cabinet here Wednesday paid tithes on their 2008 incomes to the National Zakat Agency (Baznas).
According to information from Baznas' publication coordinator, Saifullah Kundo at the president's office, the president and his ministers paid their tithes through Baznas every year.
The tithes were personally received by the chairman of Baznas, Didin Hafidhuddin.
Baznas was established based on presidential letter of recommendation No. 8 of 2001. The institution functions as collector and distributor of people's tithes and donations.
The Baznas' working mechanism is to come the poor people's houses to present the tithes. Thereby it never caused happenings like the recent Pasuruan tragedy.
Baznas was now applying modern management methods based on ISO 9001-2000 standards. The institution called on all tithe contributors to make their donations through official institutions.
