NU WISHES LEBARAN ON THE SAME DAY
Jakarta, Sept 24 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) wishes that this year's Idul Fitri would be celebrated on the same day.
"NU hoped for a single date of the Lebaran," chairman of Lajnah Falakiyah from the NU board, KH Ghazalie Masroeri, said here Wednesday.
He said that the hope would come true because in Indonesian the fasting month started on the same day across the country.
NU also hoped that the government in deciding on the exact date of Idul Fitri could accomplish the spirit of making the same day of celebrations without ignoring such aspects such as Islamic law, astronomical, geographical, and political aspects.
Moreover, Ghazalie stated that NU would not announce their version of the Idul Fitri prior the a government meeting with leaders of various islamic organizations to determine their version of the date.
