Expanding Energy Sector Has Room for More Qataris - Al-Attiyah
Doha, October 01 (QNA) - HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah has said that the rapid growth and expansion in Qatar's energy sector must be accompanied by an increase in the number of citizens in this strategic sector in the country.
In remarks on the sidelines of a ceremony organized by Texas A&M University at Qatar to recognise and thank over 80 bodies inside and outside Qatar, HE Al-Attiyah lauded the role played by the university in supplying the energy sector with well-trained Qatari cadres, pointing out to the need for more trained Qataris in this sector.
He said he was proud that he had watched 5 graduating classes from this university, who most of them joined the energy sector, a matter that brought a significant impact on the invigoration of this sector. Al-Attiyah underlined the need for full and continued support of the Texas A & M University at Qatar due to the importance of its output in the field of engineering.
He added that the university, which was a great idea turned into a positive reality thanks to the wise vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, who played a major role in meeting the shortage in this sector and enabled more citizens to joint its various sections.
Al-Attiyah explained that Qatar, which today is a pioneer in the field of hydrocarbon and has a lot of projects under implementation, needs national human resources and relies heavily on universities to supply their output for Qatar Petroleum and energy companies, engineers qualified to prevent a shortage of such employment quality state.
RasGas's General Manager Eng Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi said the company has close ties with the Texas A&M University at Qatar focusing on cooperation in research areas related to techniques of oil and gas engineering and means to develop them through a specific mechanism.
Al Mohannadi said this cooperation is centered on several initiatives, including the area of research. The company has financed many studies related to improving the production of gas from the North Field and increasing the production of condensates, he added. (QNA)
