Thai economy to meet projected target at 3.5-4.2% in 2011

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - The Kasikorn Research Centre (KRC) said on Saturday despite impacts from Thailand's ongoing flooding crisis and the financial crisis in the United States and Europe, the Thai economy is projected to grow and to meet an earlier target at around 3.5-4.2 per cent in 2011.

KRC assessed Thailand’s economic growth during the second half of 2011 at 4- 5.5 per cent, up from 2.9 per cent in the first half, cautioning, however, that the Thai economy and financial market are expected to confront with risk factors in 2012 although the negative impacts appear not to be serious, thanks to the Thai government's measures to boost more public spending.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) said that the central bank will discuss the country's updated economic situation at the forthcoming meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee on October 19, which may lead to an adjusted forecast on the national economic growth, earlier estimated at 4.1% this year.
