Intelligent dummy officers oversee Bangkok traffic

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - Thailand is installing "intelligent" dummy police officers, called "Jah Choey" or Sergeant Idly Silent, at major locations in Bangkok where accidents frequently take place, to help keep an eye on violators of traffic laws.

Metropolitan police said that "Jah Choey" will be equipped with security and speed cameras, developed and sponsored by the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), to detect motorists in the Thai capital who violate the laws.

According to the police, the cameras embedded in "Jah Choey" will transmit images to traffic police officers' smart phones or tablet computers within a 2-5 kilometre radius and to the Traffic Police Command Centre in the city.

The Thai police noted that "Jah Choey" will be more flexible than the closed-circuit television CCTV cameras, as the "smart" dummy police officers can be moved to other targeted locations. (TNA)
