Royal cremation for late Princess Bejaratana set in April 2012

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - The government has set November 3, 2011 for organising religious rites to mark the end of the 100-day mourning period for Thailand's late Princess Bejaratana and April 9, 2012 for her royal cremation at Bangkok's Sanam Luang ceremonial ground.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra have informed authorities concerned of the schedules, saying that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has also granted a royal approval for the construction of a royal crematorium for the late Princess.

The Pheu Thai premier revealed that the construction of the royal crematorium for the late Princess at Sanam Luang, which will begin on December 15, 2011, will take four months to be complete, in time for royal cremation set on April 9 next year.

Meanwhile, the Thai government will seek advice on preparations for the late Princess's royal cremation from both Her Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn; while seven committees have also been set up to ensure that the royal cremation will be held smoothly.

The late Princess, who passed away from blood infection at the age of 85, was the only daughter of Thailand's late King Vajiravudh (King Rama VI) and was the first cousin of the present Thai monarch. (TNA)
