Thai troops assisting flood victims

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - Commanding General of the 2nd Army Area Command Lieutenant General Thawatchai Samutsakorn has confirmed that some 3,000 troops have stationed in more than a dozen of Thailand's flood-hit provinces to assist affected people.

Lieutenant General Tawatchai acknowledged that the flooding situation in the Thai Northeast appeared to be less serious, compared to that in other parts of the country, although three northeastern Ubon Ratchathani, Chaiyaphum and Roi Et have mostly been hit by the ongoing vast floods.

Meanwhile, Hat Yai, a business hub in Thailand's southern Songkhla Province, has stepped up flood assistance for local people, with Hat Yai Mayor Prai Pattano saying a flooding operation centre has been set up as a coordinating unit for flood relief, where local authorities can monitor weather conditions and water levels through updated information provided by Southeastern Meteorological Office and the 16th Irrigation Office in Songkhla.
