Thai King approves military reshuffle 2011

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has approved Thailand's military reshuffle 2011, countersigned by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, taking effect from October 1, 2011.

The annual military transfer, officially announced Friday evening, covered 584 senior Thai military officers of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Defence Ministry, including General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, who now becomes Thailand's new supreme commander-in-chief, from his former position of the Royal Thai Armed Forces' chief of staff, and his three new deputies who are Lieutenant General Sakon Sajjanit, Admiral Yuthana Fakpholngam and Air Chief Marshal Bunyarit Kertsuk; while Admiral Worapong Sa-nganet has been promoted the Royal Thai Armed Forces' Chief of Staff, from a deputy chief of staff.

Other Thai newly-appointed top-brass military officers include General Dapong Ratanasuban, who is now Deputy Army Commander-in-Chief, while two new Assistant Army Commander-in-Chiefs include General Thanongsak Apirakyothin and General Podok Bunnag. Lieutenant General Sirichai Diskula now becomes the Army Chief of Staff.

Admiral Surasak Runrerngrom now becomes Navy-Commander-in-Chief; while Admiral Veeraphol Kitsombat and Admiral Amornthep Na Bangchang are now Deputy Navy-Commander-in-Chief and Assistant Navy Commander-in-Chief respectively. Admiral Damrongsak Haocharoen has been promoted new Navy Chief of Staff.

Air Chief Marshal Srichao Chanruang now becomes new Deputy Air Force Chief; while Air Chief Marshal Prajin Jantong and Air Chief Marshal Winai Plengwittaya are now Assistant Air Force Chiefs. Air Chief Marshal Permkiart Lawanamal has been promoted new Air Force Chief of Staff.

Those who are on Thailand's military reshuffle list this year also include General Sathien Permthong-in, who now becomes new Permanent Secretary for Defence, and Thawil Pliensri, who has been transferred to an advisor attached to the Prime Minister's Office, from the position of the secretary general to the National Security Council (NSC).
