Thailand's telecom giant rebranded
BANGKOK, September 29 (TNA) - Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), Thailand's largest mobile phone service provider under Shin Corporation, a telecommunication business conglomerate of former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's family, announced on Thursday that it is entirely rebranding itself to distance its image from politics.
AIS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wichian Mektrakarn said that AIS has injected a 500-million-baht fund for the company's rebranding purpose, covering a change in its logo from a blue globe to a green smiling.
Wichian noted that the move followed Temasek Holdings, a regional telecommunication giant run by the Singapore government and now the largest stake holder of the Shin Corp, has renamed Shin Corp to the "Intouch Group", causing all Shin Corp's subsidiaries, including Thaicom, a Thai satellite firm, to be renamed accordingly.
Meanwhile, the AIS CEO assessed that Thailand's telecommunication business, covering advance 3G mobile phone services, should be growing vastly following the launch of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in the near future. (TNA)
