FTI: operators need to gear up for AEC
BANGKOK, September 29 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has urged Thai operators to enhance their market strategies to prepare for the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015.
FTI Vice Chairman Thanit Sorat said during a seminar entitled “trends and directions of the ASEAN economic integration” that the AEC is a double-edged sword that could have both positive and negative impacts, and therefore, proper strategies should be drawn up to tap into the opportunities.
Thanit warned that Thai operators, particularly those who run direct-exporting businesses, should prepare to respond quickly to market conditions or risk facing serious competition from neighbouring markets, especially China. He said Thai operators, with great business potentials, should also draw up safe side measures against possible business takeovers.
The FTI chairman added that the Thai government should think twice before investing in any transnational infrastructure development project, saying that although the move will benefit the tourism sector by bringing in more tourists to Thailand, especially from China, it will cause an influx of Chinese-made products and harm local producers.
