First group of Thai Muslims leaves for Hajj
BANGKOK, September 29 (TNA) - The first group of Thai Muslims has left for Saudi Arabia via a flight of Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, for the annual Hajj.
The Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) organised a ceremony at the Hat Yai International Airport, presided over by Vice Minister for Interior General Watana Sanpanich, with security measures in good place, to see the first batch of Thai Muslims off for this year's pilgrimage in Saudi Holy Cities. The first group of the Thai 283 Muslims departed via a THAI flight early Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Suthat Thitirawiwong, head of Thailand's Hajj centre in the far South, said that there are a total of 13,000 Thai Muslims having applied for the Hajj this year, some 9,000 of them live in the country's Muslim predominated southern border region, noting that THAI will provide its 21 flights to cater all the Thai Muslim pilgrims to the Hajj in the coming weeks.
