Bayati: F16 planes; strategic need for Iraq, the dispute about the immunity of the American trainers

Baghdad (NINA) – Member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Abbas Al Bayati, stressed the importance of the F16 planes deal with the US, considering it “an urgent strategic and defense need for Iraq as part of building its air forces and defenses.”

A statement issued by his office today mentioned that Bayati received today Haars Joshua and Samrine Merza from the Political Department of the US embassy in Baghdad.

Bayati, MP from the State of Law Coalition, hailed the US administration’s role in striking that deal as it will enhance Iraq’s military capability to provide active protection to Iraq’s skies, describing the F16s as highly developed planes.

He said there is no argument among the political blocs about the need for American trainers, but, the dispute is about the immunity of them, expressing hope that the political blocs, that will meet when President Jalal Talabani comes back from New York, would reach a mutual understanding in this regard away from using that issue as a pressure card.
