BANGKOK, September 28 (TNA) - Spokesperson for Thailand’s main Suvarnabhumi Airport, Wilaiwan Nadwilai, has announced that at least 47 million passengers arrived through the airport in the 2011 fiscal year during October 1, 2010 to September 25, 2011.
Wilaiwan made the announcement on Wednesday on the occasion of the airport’s 5th anniversary celebrations, saying also that the annual air-traffic rose by 12% from the previous fiscal year.
Wilaiwan noted that of the 47 million passengers, 10.28 million were domestic flyers while the other 36.9 million were international. Of these figures, the highest number of passengers using the airport ranked by nationality came from Thailand, China, Japan and Russia, respectively.
She added that airfreight shipment through Suvarnabhumi Airport rose by 4.42% to 1.24 million tonnes in the 2011 fiscal year from previously, and that some 48,686 tonnes were domestic cargos and 1.19 million tonnes international.
The spokesperson said Suvarnabhumi Airport has improved its facilities to serve the growing body of passengers, covering the enlargement of a passenger search area, the installation of automatic check-in machines, full-body-scanning machines for transit passengers, and information kiosks. In addition, more interpreters for Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian tourists have been added to accommodate travellers needs. (TNA)
