PRESIDENT TO INAUGURATE LAHENDONG GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANT
Manado, Indonesia, Sept. 24 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to inaugurate the Lahendong geothermal power plant in Minahasa District, North Sulawesi Province, next December 2008.
The new power plant having a capacity of 40 MegaWatt (MW), would address the power crisis in the province, North Sulawesi Governor Sarundajang said here on Wednesday.
North Sulawesi is expected to experience a power surplus in 2009, especially with the operation of the Amurang coal-fired power plant which could produce 50 MW, according to the governor.
Meanwhile, Achmad Riandie, commercial manager of PT PLN (state electricity company) for North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo, said there were a number of power plant projects being constructed by his company as well as other investors.
The new projects included Likupang I and II MFO diesel power plants having a respective power capacity of 20 MW, Minahasa steam power plant, and Lobong mini hydro power plant.
During his stay in Manado, President Yudhoyono would also inspect preparations for the planned World Ocean Conference (WOC) which will be organized in North Sulawesi, in May next year.
