HOUSE ACCEPTS BAMBANG HENDARSO AS NEW POLICE CHIEF
Jakarta, Sept 24 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) at a plenary session here on Wednesday endorsed the positive outcome of a fit-and-proper test one of the House's commissions had conducted on Commissioner General Bambang Hendarso Danuri as the sole candidate for the post of National Police Chief.
At the plenary session House Speaker Agung Laksono expressed hope that the new police chief would carry out Law No.2/2002 on the National Police with full responsibility.
Earlier during the session, the chairman of House Commission III, Trimedya Panjaitan, delivered a report on the result of the fit-and-proper test which was conducted on Monday, September 22, 2008.
Trimedya said all factions in the House of Representatives accepted Bambang Hendarso, currently head of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit, as the new National Police chief to replace Gen Sutanto who would retire early next month.
The House would send the result of the fit-and-proper test to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono so that the president could install Bambang Hendarso as the new national police chief as soon as possible.
