Unions to launch job security campaign
Australian unions will on Wednesday launch a campaign designed to address what they say is a growing trend towards job insecurity.
"Fewer and fewer Australians have the security of a permanent job," Australian Council of Trade Unions president Ged Kearney said in a statement.
"Casual jobs, short-term contracts, labour hire and other forms of insecure work prevent people from properly planning for their future."
About 40 per cent of the domestic workforce is in an insecure job and the number is growing, Ms Kearney said.
The ACTU will launch its Secure Jobs. Better Future campaign in Sydney at 10am (AEST), with workers, academic researchers and union staff due to speak about the issue.
It is designed to highlight the trend and support workers with insecure jobs.
The ACTU will also publish a report; Insecure work, anxious lives, which documents the growth of insecure jobs.
