Thai FM holds bilateral talks with German, Ukrainian and Iranian counterparts
BANGKOK, September 27 (TNA) - Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul on Monday held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Germany, Ukraine, and Iran on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN Assembly in New York.
In meeting with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, both sides affirmed their intention to deepen bilateral relations. The Thai minister also invited the German government to participate in the 150th anniversary celebrations of Thai-German diplomatic relations slated for 2012.
Both ministers also vowed to promote bilateral tourism in light of tourist figures showing that over 600,000 Germans visit Thailand every year--the second biggest group among European countries to visit the Kingdom.
In another meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko, the Thai minister emphasized on the use of bilateral mechanisms to boost relations. Surapong asked his counterpart to consider issuing multiple entry visas for Thai businessmen who are interested in investing and exploring markets in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian minister asked Thailand to consider a visa waiver for Ukrainian tourists who wish to stay in Thailand for tourism purposes for up to 30 days.
Later in the day, the Thai minister also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi when both parties agreed to promote the exchange of high-level visit to deepen their bilateral relations. (TNA)
