Social Development Center Launches Awards for Entrepreneurs & Their Supporters

Doha, September 26 (QNA) - Qdatar, in a move to further foster the culture of entrepreneurship in Qatar and give more support to those in the start-up world, the Social Development Center (SDC), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), has launched Reyada Awards, an incentivized program designed to encourage individuals to start up and run their own business concepts in Qatar.
In its first edition, the annual award currently features three different categories for those brave and creative enough to become entrepreneurs and those who support them. The three awards are: the New Venture Challenge Award, the Entrepreneur Achiever Award, and the Outstanding Entrepreneur Support Award.
"SDC's support of entrepreneurship goes back to 2003 when we started the Rasameel fund for start-ups and later the Tanmia program for training," said Munther Al-Dawood, Projects and Investment Manager at SDC. "While we are opening applications to all Qataris with entrepreneurial potential, we see this award as the culmination of all our efforts and fitting celebrations of those we have watched grow under our guidance."
While target entrepreneurs for the New Venture Challenge and Achiever categories are Qatari nationals, the Outstanding Entrepreneur Support Award is also open to Qatari resident companies and individuals.
Priority will be given to those who have participated in Tanmia or Rasameel. Candidates can apply or be nominated by their coaches in the Tanmia or Rasameel programs.
"We hope that through Reyada we can give momentum to the culture of initiative and innovation in Qatar, where ambition and drive are recognized and encouraged," Al-Dawood added.
The New Venture Challenge Award is designed to reward outstanding and well-developed business ideas. While the idea may not have entered execution phase, judges will evaluate the applicability and practicality of the business plan, and winners will have the opportunity to see their ideas transform into reality through financial and technical support.
The Entrepreneur Achiever Award is given to leading entrepreneurs who have succeeded in their projects. To qualify for the award, the candidates should have succeeded in the development phase of a small or medium-sized project that contributes to Qatar National Vision 2030.
Entrepreneurs whose business ideas have shown robust and sustainable growth are also eligible for this award. The winners will be rewarded with access to resources that will help them expand their businesses.
The Outstanding Entrepreneur Support Award acknowledges companies and individuals for their outstanding support and/or exposure of entrepreneurs. The support may be in any of the following forms: financial support, encouragement, coaching, support through connection and exposure to financiers. Candidates may apply for the award or be nominated by SDC.
