Thai PM briefed on updated flooding situation

BANGKOK, September 26 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called a video conference with parties concerned Monday morning, including Permanent Secretary for Interior Wichien Chavalit, to be briefed on the updated flooding situation in the country.

The Meteorological Department cautioned that there may be more downpours in the country over the next couple of days, particularly those in the eastern region and agencies concerned should, therefore, keep on alert to prevent or to deal with possible inundations.

The weather bureau acknowledged that water levels in the main Chao Phraya and the Mul and the Chee Rivers, now passing through central and northeastern areas, have kept rising although floodwater in most affected areas have now been stable.

Premier Yingluck told authorities in all flood-hit provinces to speed up completing short-term measures to prevent and to deal with, probably, further floods and to report progress to her within this week, as well as to coordinate with the Royal Thai Irrigation Department on updated flood-related information.

The Pheu Thai premier said she had been informed by the Prime Minister's Office that long-term national flood prevention measures have also been prepared. (TNA)
