Qtel Receives CSR Recognition at CEO Middle East Awards
Doha, September 25 (QNA) - Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has received the Corporate Social Responsibility award at the prestigious CEO Middle East Awards this week, in recognition of the company s ongoing contribution to the local and international community, the company said in a statement.
The glittering award ceremony was held on Tuesday 20th September at the Armani Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with Qtel the only company from Qatar to receive recognition in the regional competition.
The award committee recognized Qtel for its ongoing efforts supporting CSR activity in its home market of Qatar, and for its success in extending its CSR strategy into regional and international markets. The Award was collected on behalf of Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, CEO of Qtel Qatar by Adel Al Mutawa, Executive Director, and Group Communications.
"Qtel is proud to accept this award in recognition of our ongoing support for the community and for social causes throughout Qatar. We believe that it is essential that we continue to give back to the people of Qatar, through a broad range of sustainable initiatives that contribute to the growth of the nation and which help people in need across the wider region," said Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, CEO of Qtel Qatar.
Qtel s CSR strategy "For Qatar, Hand in Hand" offers an orchestrated approach provided better opportunity for planning long-range efforts with community partners.
"For Qatar: Hand in Hand" was designed to incorporate five pillars, each of which signifies a key priority in Qtel s CSR outreach. These five pillars Education, Healthcare, Environmental Issues, Social Welfare Initiatives and Sport provide the guideposts by which Qtel determines focus and allocation of its CSR activities and resources.
Under this strategy Qtel have launched several new initiatives in recent months including the training of 17 key employees working in Qtel Shops throughout Doha in sign language, to better equip them to assist hearing-impaired customers. The company is also offering special reductions on communication solutions designed for people with disabilities.
In addition, Qtel launched several environmental initiatives including a successful e-waste recycling programme and a positive move towards providing e-Bills, to reduce the amount of paper wasted.
The CEO Middle East Awards were established in 2008 by CEO Middle East Magazine, to recognize and reward outstanding success, innovation and ethics across Middle Eastern Business.
