Awqaf Minister Inaugurates Regional Workshop on 'Endowments Investment & Management'
Doha, September 25 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari on Sunday inaugurated the regional workshop on "Endowments Investment and Management", held in Doha on 25-28 September.
The four-day event is organized by the Qatari Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in collaboration with the Kuwaiti General Secretariat of Awqaf and the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a member of the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
The workshop aims to provide professionals with expertise and skills needed to manage and invest endowments as well as training programs to use modern means of financial management.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Dr. Al Kuwari highlighted the State of Qatar's interest in promoting the endowment at the legislative and institutional levels.
This workshop is held in the framework of the Ministry's strategic plan, which aims at developing research programs led by a number of scholars, economists and Investment professionals; identifying new areas of investments and new managing processes as well as carrying out a financial monitoring system according to the principles of governance, said Dr. Al Kuwari.
The Ministry has suggested the establishment of a Governance Authority, which will be in charge of overseeing and boosting the Ministry's financial departments in addition to preparing financial feasibility studies, he said.
This aim will not be achieved without the implementation of rehabilitation programs for the employees in collaboration with investment, banking and Sharia experts in the development of Islamic Finance, Dr. Al Kuwari explained.
Concluding, HE the Minister pointed to the civilizational and social dimensions of developing the endowment institution, which has always played a pivotal role in the history of Muslims.
