Thai PM inspects flood in Lop Buri
BANGKOK, September 25 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra early Sunday inspected flood in Lop Buri Province while farmers in several flood-hit provinces began to harvest rice although it is still not fully ripened out of concerns that it could become rotten after the rice field has been inundated for about two months now.
Yingluck also handed out necessities to flood victims in Lop Buri during her visit. She also telephoned flood victims in Chiang Mai Province’s Fang District to boost their morale after flash flood swept the district on Saturday, killing several people and damaging at least 20 houses.
Meanwhile, in the lower northern province of Nakhon Sawan which is the country’s largest breeding ground for freshwater fish, fish raisers were suffering heavily after fishes were carried away by the strong current.
In Pathum Thani Province, farmers in Lam Luk Ka District pooled in money and brought eight water-pumps to pump floodwater from rice field to protect rice trees from dying.
The similar situation was seen in Ang Thong Province. Farmers there started to harvesting rice although it was not yet fully grown.
The disaster was also seen in the eastern region. Several major roads were cut in the eastern province of Prachin Buri bordering Cambodia while shops were temporarily closed for business. Also, government offices, police and bus stations were still under deep waters. (TNA)
