Security at Thai Parliament to be tightened

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - Security at the Thai Parliament will become more tightened in the future when security guards will carry equipment checking whether people entering parliamentary buildings carry any deadly weapon.

Speaking at a seminar for journalists held in Cha-am resort district of Thailand's upper southern Petchaburi Province on Friday, Charoen Chankomol, first Deputy House Speaker said that the plan to tighten security at the Thai Parliament came after the new Pheu Thai government took office last month, with security for officials considered significant.

Charoen insisted that weapon carriers must not be allowed to enter into Thai parliamentary buildings and security guards may have to search on people entering the buildings thoroughly, noting that the new move followed recent complaints that some people had carried guns when entered the Thai Parliament.

The deputy Thai House speaker acknowledged that a state budget has already been approved to buy the equipment checking on suspected people carrying weapons into the compound of the Thai Parliament. (TNA)
