Thai PM orders urgent assistance for flood victims

BANGKOK, September 24 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra ordered agencies concerned on Saturday to accelerate assistance to local flood victims, as the country's all regions have been hit by seasonal inundations over the past couple of months.

Yingluck instructed Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Interior's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Wiboon Sanguanpong to coordinate with other concerned agencies, including the Royal Thai Army, to provide the official assistance to the flood victims, including those in Fang District of the northern Chiang Mai Province, where severe flash floods have killed several people and damaged at least 20 houses, and those in Nam Pad of the northern Uttaradit Province.

The Thai premier is scheduled to, again, visit flood victims in two districts, Baan Mee and Ta Wung of the country's central Lop Buri Province on Sunday.

According to updated official reports, the current round of flooding, which has hit 57 out of Thailand's 77 provinces, has killed over 150 victims since late July. (TNA)
